Network management is a core competency of CBV Communications & Technologies. CBV Communications & Technologies’ Outsourcing Desktop Services can be designed to meet the needs of each client. The services are offered on a monthly, semi-annual or annual basis in blocks of 8, 16, 24 or 32 hours per month. Additional hours are charged at a fixed rate. Those clients who sign semi-annual and annual contracts will receive advantageous pricing. Outsourcing Desktop / Network Management Services

Baselining and Documenting
During their initial service calls, CBV Communications & Technologies’ engineers will baseline and document the network and desktop assets. To simplify troubleshooting, maximize technology resource utilization, and streamline network management, detailed records of all network assets will be kept in CBV Communications & Technologies’ offices as well as at the customer’s site. After each service call, the engineer will fill out a form detailing any changes that have occurred in the network.

Server Configuration & Optimization
CBV Communications & Technologies will be responsible for the configuration, optimization and maintenance of the network server. By monitoring its workload characterization, our engineers will be able to locate areas that need to be optimized. If needed, CBV Communications & Technologies’ engineers will install additional memory, hard drives or other hardware devices.

Network Printers
CBV Communications & Technologies will install, configure and maintain peripheral devices such as printers, modems, scanners, monitors, keyboards, etc. We offer cost-effective printer network solutions that eliminate the need to purchase multiple LaserJet printers. Our HP-certified technicians are experienced at optimizing and repairing LaserJet printers.

Power Protection
China’s spurious power changes are responsible for a large percentage of network problems. CBV Communications & Technologies’ engineers will ensure that the customer’s network investment is protected from the many power risks that exist in China. We recommend that the server, network equipment and mission-critical workstations are protected by adequately-sized UPS systems. UPS must be routinely tested to ensure that the batteries are functioning properly.

Software Installation and Configuration
CBV Communications & Technologies will install and configure network operating system and application software. Our engineers are familiar with a wide range of network operating systems including Windows NT, Novell NetWare, SCO UNIX and OS/2. They will also install and configure application software such as MS-Mail, Lotus cc:Mail, ARCServe, Intel LANDesk Virus Protection.
 

Operating System Upgrades
In the case that upgrades to the network’s operating system software packages become available, CBV Communications & Technologies will notify the customer and render an opinion on the costs and benefits of purchasing the software upgrade. After the installation, we will support the upgrade process with the necessary user training.

License Monitoring and Volume Licensing
CBV Communications & Technologies will be responsible for monitoring software licenses to ensure that the customer has adequate license coverage for all users. Unlicensed software is extremely popular in China. A foreign company cannot afford to jeopardize its reputation or the integrity of its network by adopting a lenient stance towards the use of unlicensed software by its employees. In addition to being illegal, the use of pirated software significantly increases the company’s level of exposure to viruses. CBV Communications & Technologies will report the use of unlicensed software to the appropriate contact person. Beyond this, we will use our knowledge of each software company’s volume licensing policies to make cost-saving purchase recommendations. These licensing policies are often times country-specific requiring a knowledge of the software company’s China licensing policies.

Software Training
CBV Communications & Technologies training engineers have been carefully selected from the Computer Science departments of Shanghai’s most prestigious universities. These engineers are chosen not only for their technical ability but also for their teaching experience. Many of them have taught university-level courses or have corporate training experience. CBV Communications & Technologies engineers are Microsoft, Novell and Lotus-certified instructors.

Virus Sweep & Clean
CBV Communications & Technologies will work with the systems administrator to develop an effective virus protection policy. If the customer chooses to purchase anti-virus software for its workstations, we will recommend a suitable anti-virus software package and be responsible for installing upgrade versions as they become available. Using the customer’s anti-virus software, we will check all workstations for virus activity at least once every month. Because many of the world’s viruses originate in China, it is important that the customer pay particular attention to the prevention and control of viruses.

Security Management and Disaster Recovery
Given the unstable operating conditions in China, security management and disaster recovery planning must be made a priority. CBV Communications & Technologies will develop a disaster recovery plan that focuses on complete systems reinstallation, 100% data recovery and express parts delivery. We guarantee our customer’s that we will provide them with the necessary technical expertise and equipment to have their systems back up and running as soon as possible. In most cases, the plan will be to have the systems back on-line within 24 hours.
 

Help Desk (Optional)
As an option to its Outsourcing Desktop Services, CBV Communications & Technologies offers business hours help desk services. From 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday-Friday, we have bilingual service engineers standing by to assist customers with any technical problems that they may encounter. Help Desk assistance can be purchased in blocks of ten support calls or on an unlimited basis.
